About the Role

The Bringing Them Home (BTH) Therapeutic Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who continue to live with the impacts of historical government policies, family separation and intergenerational trauma.

Working alongside members of the Stolen Generations, their descendants and families, you will provide culturally safe therapeutic support that promotes healing, resilience, reconnection and wellbeing.

This is a therapeutic support role centred on healing, advocacy and empowerment. While community engagement is an important part of the position, the successful applicant will be someone who can confidently support people through complex trauma, build resilience, reconnect with culture, family and Country and help individuals move towards healing and self-determination

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

·  A Certificate IV (minimum) or higher qualification in Counselling, Community Services, Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline

·  The ability to build meaningful, respectful relationships with Aboriginal people, families and community

·  The resilience to support people through some of the toughest times in their lives while also looking after your own wellbeing.       

·  A genuine understanding of the Stolen Generations and the lasting impact this continues to have on Aboriginal people, families and communities.

·  The confidence to support, encourage and advocate for people on their healing journey, helping them build strength, independence and hope for the future.

·  Excellent communication, empathy and professional boundaries

·  A genuine passion for supporting healing, strengthening culture and improving wellbeing

This is an Aboriginal Identified Position. Applicants must provide an Aboriginality Certificate in accordance with AWAHS employment requirements.
