Join the new program - Journey to Motherhood Team

Aboriginal Health Worker- Full time position

Wodonga Location

Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is a proudly Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing culturally safe, holistic primary health care to Aboriginal people across Albury-Wodonga and surrounding communities.

Our vision is simple - working alongside our community to create generational health change.

We are launching our new Journey to Motherhood Program, providing culturally safe, wraparound care for Aboriginal women and women carrying Aboriginal babies through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Our team is almost complete. With an experienced Midwife and Social Worker already in place, we are now looking for an Aboriginal Health Worker to complete the team and play an important role in bringing this new program to life.

This is a great opportunity to be involved from the beginning, building trusted relationships with women and families and helping them feel supported, connected and confident throughout their journey.

As the Aboriginal Health Worker, you will be at the heart of the Journey to Motherhood Program, walking alongside Aboriginal women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the early years.

You will provide culturally safe support, education, advocacy and practical assistance while helping families access healthcare, community services, parenting programs and other supports. Your role will strengthen cultural connections and improve health outcomes for mothers, babies and children.

You will have

  • A passion for supporting Aboriginal women, babies and families
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • An understanding of Aboriginal community, culture and health
  • This is an identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Proof of Aboriginality is a legitimate requirement. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act

What AWAHS Offers

  • Meaningful work: Make a lasting difference for Aboriginal women, babies and families
  • Attractive benefits: Salary packaging of up to $15,900 tax-free, plus superannuation
  • Supportive team: Inclusive culture, professional development, supervision and EAP access
  • Career growth: Opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career through training and internal opportunities
  • Progressive organisation: Contribute to an expanding service with a new health precinct underway in Wodonga
