Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is a proudly Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing culturally safe, holistic primary health care to Aboriginal people across Albury-Wodonga and surrounding communities.

Our vision is simple - working alongside our community to create generational health change.

We are launching an exciting new ‘Journey to Motherhood’ Program to provide culturally safe, wraparound care for Aboriginal women and women carrying Aboriginal babies throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenting.

This is an opportunity to join a passionate multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal women, babies and families while creating lasting change for future generations.      

Endorsed Midwife

Part time – 3 days per week

Wodonga location

Lead the clinical delivery of the Journey to Motherhood Program by providing culturally safe, woman centred maternity care from early pregnancy through to the postnatal period.

Working alongside our Aboriginal Health Worker, Social Worker, GPs and community partners, you will build trusted relationships with women and families while providing antenatal care, health education, postnatal support and outreach services across Albury-Wodonga, Benalla and Wangaratta.

This is an opportunity to work in a supportive environment where continuity of care and genuine relationships are valued.  

You will have

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife
  • Endorsed Midwife qualification (or eligibility to obtain endorsement)
  • Experience providing antenatal and postnatal care
  • A passion for culturally safe maternity care

Social Worker

Full time

Wodonga location

As the Journey to Motherhood program Social Worker, you will provide culturally safe, trauma informed support to Aboriginal women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenting.

You will work closely with women experiencing complex life circumstances by providing counselling, advocacy, care coordination and practical support while working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference during one of the most important times in a family’s life.  

You will have

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Experience working with families, maternal health, community health or vulnerable clients
  • Strong counselling, assessment and case management skills

Aboriginal Health Worker

Full Time

Wodonga location

As the Aboriginal Health Worker, you will be at the heart of the Journey to Motherhood Program, walking alongside Aboriginal women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the early years.

You will provide culturally safe support, education, advocacy and practical assistance while helping families access healthcare, community services, parenting programs and other supports. Your role will strengthen cultural connections and improve health outcomes for mothers, babies and children.  

You will have

  • A passion for supporting Aboriginal women, babies and families
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • An understanding of Aboriginal community, culture and health
  • This is an identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Proof of Aboriginality is a legitimate requirement. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act
