Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is a respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation providing primary health care and committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the broader Albury Wodonga region through integrated, client-focused, and community-driven healthcare.
AWAHS operates a modern, purpose-built community health centre in Glenroy, providing a wide range of culturally safe and accessible health services. As a fully bulk-billing organisation, AWAHS employs a multidisciplinary team including General Practitioners, dentists, allied health professionals, and visiting specialists to deliver holistic care to the community.
About the role:
We are seeking a Medicare Officer, and in this role, you will manage all Medicare claims with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring any rejected or partially paid claims are resolved quickly. You will maintain full compliance with Services Australia (Medicare) requirements, legislation, and AWAHS policies while supporting smooth billing operations across the organisation.
You will monitor daily billing activity, provide regular reports to management, and oversee PRODA registrations and compliance documentation for new staff. Your attention to detail will help strengthen systems through internal audits, training on Medicare item numbers, and the promotion of best-practice billing.

What you will bring:
- Experience in Medicare administration or health care billing systems.
- Knowledge of Medicare and PRODA regulations, legislation and compliances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Competent computer skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills with commitment to meeting deadlines.
- An understanding of Aboriginal health and culturally safe service delivery and practice.
- A qualification in Aboriginal Health or Enrolled Nursing is desirable, not essential.
