Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation committed to delivering culturally safe, accessible, and community led primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Albury–Wodonga region. Grounded in respect, partnership, and empowerment, AWAHS works alongside the community to support improved health and wellbeing outcomes and foster long term, positive change for future generations.
About the Role
The role supports individuals in accessing appropriate sexual health services, including guidance, support, and treatment, in a respectful and non-judgemental environment.
There is a strong emphasis on collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and external services to ensure coordinated, culturally responsive care. The position actively supports patients by building trust, encouraging participation in care, and providing ongoing support tailored to individual needs. A key component of the role involves health promotion and education, empowering clients and the broader community to make informed decisions about their health, while fostering greater awareness and sustained engagement with services across both clinic and outreach settings.
This is a secure fixed-term opportunity through to 30 June 2029, offering stability while making a meaningful difference in the community.
You will:
- Provide sexual health assessments, testing, treatment and case management
- Deliver health promotion and education programs
- Work both in clinic and via outreach (van visits & home visits)
- Support prevention and early intervention strategies
- Collaborate with doctors, health workers, and community partners
- Contribute to innovative, community led healthcare solutions
About you:
- Registered Nurse (AHPRA Division 1)
- Experience in primary health care or community nursing
- Understanding of communicable diseases, harm reduction and prevention strategies
- Ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with Aboriginal communities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to culturally safe and inclusive care
- Current driver’s licence
