Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides first-class primary health care services to the Aboriginal community in Albury, Wodonga, and surrounding areas.

Join the AWAHS Social & Emotional Wellbeing Team (SEWB) to support the Aboriginal community towards a better future. The goal is to empower clients by delivering alcohol and other drug programs holistically, aligned with primary health care principles and goals.

As an Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Support Worker, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing case management support to Aboriginal clients with drug and alcohol dependence issues
  • Promoting a client-focused approach when engaging with clients affected by alcohol and other drug use issues, and
  • Empowering clients by delivering a holistic approach to alcohol and other drugs programs and services.
  • Reducing the level of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug usage in the local Aboriginal community

 You will have extensive work experience and/or a qualification relevant to the role, this will include:

  • Experience either professionally, community based, or family related in supporting Aboriginal people and their families who have alcohol and other drug issues
  • Case management, including consultation, assessment, support, referral & follow-up
  • Team care planning for SEWB clients
  • Providing outreach support & working in partnership with clients to reach identified goals
  • An understanding of the current health issues relevant to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Planning and facilitating Education and Health promotion programs
